Scotland has led the world in a commitment to excellence in education for centuries and the good news is - we're hiring!

Scotland is a vibrant, fascinating country with a rich history and a strong cultural identity. We have a long tradition as a leader in educational practice, and our national curriculum, known as the Curriculum for Excellence is a flexible and creative platform for teaching. Simply put, we are the perfect place for you to develop your teaching career.

Scotland currently provides a comprehensive, free, state education system to all children from 5 to 18 years old. This system is split between primary school - from 5 to 12 - and secondary school - from 12 to 18 - and there are always opportunities for great teachers in both these areas.

"I would encourage anyone to come and teach in Scotland. There's so much room to grow, my career has completely blossomed". - Aoife Lambert, a primary school teacher from Ireland, now teaching in Scotland.

Make yourself at home

Scotland has long been revered for the warmth of its welcome. Our country is a melting pot of different peoples and cultures, with more than 150 different languages spoken throughout Scotland. This means that, whether you pop over the water from one of our European neighbours, or come from Canada, New Zealand, Australia or further afield, you're sure to feel right at home.

We're also an incredibly open country, with vibrant, cosmopolitan cities, wondrous culture and history and stunning scenery. What's more, with a reputation for providing a great 'work/life balance', you will have plenty time to explore Scotland's great outdoors after the school bell rings.

Opportunity knocks...

We know that teaching is an incredibly rewarding job, it is a career that has a strong sense of job satisfaction - where your efforts are rewarded by watching the young people you teach progress and develop. However, in Scotland, that's not the only type of reward you'll get, as we also offer an attractive package of benefits that will reward you financially and personally throughout your career and beyond.

The good news is that even if you are a newly-qualified teacher, or are a soon-to-be-qualified teacher, there are opportunities for you here in Scotland. Moving to Scotland offers opportunity to travel and experience a new part of the world as well as get a great start to your career in teaching. Not only that - there's an opportunity to teach in a diverse range of options (rural/urban) in a very progressive education sector.

But don't just take our word from it, Aoife Lambert is a primary school teacher from Dublin, Ireland, who made the decision to progress her career in Scotland:

Case Study: Aoife Lambert

Aoife is originally from Dublin, Ireland, and made the decision to move to Scotland back in 2014. In the years since then, she has built a life for herself that she never imagined possible, all revolving around her position as a primary teacher at St David's Primary School in Edinburgh.

Aoife was particularly struck by just how friendly everyone was when she arrived here. Her natural bubbly personality meant she instantly hit it off with the locals and it wasn't long before she was making life-long friends to go out and spend time with - taking full advantage of Scotland's unrivalled work/life balance.

"My move to Scotland is the best decision I could have ever made. I now own a house, I’ve met my partner and I just feel really settled here". - Aoife
